More Terrifying Than Change

4 Dec

As a young girl, she was terrified of change.

The leaves changing colors in the fall, the snow

melting just as fast as it came. Puppies growing

into dogs. Innocence evaporating in the blink

of an eye. Towns turning into cities. Childhood zooming by, faster than

a freight train. She didn’t have enough time, she thought, to be

and do and live inside every single moment. It all went by

too fast. The older she got, the more she came to realize that,

the real terror was not change, but looking back on life and realizing

she had not changed at all.
